U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has automatically extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Lebanon for six months, effective May 28, 2026, through November 27, 2026, according to a notice published in the Federal Register (91 FR 32069).
The extension was triggered by the TPS statute, which provides that if the Secretary of Homeland Security does not determine whether a foreign state continues to meet the conditions for TPS designation at least 60 days before the expiration of the current designation, the period is automatically extended for six months. The previous designation was set to expire on May 27, 2026.
"Rapidly unfolding events in Lebanon in March 2026 impacted the Department's ability to conduct a thorough review of prevailing country conditions for the Secretary's timely consideration and determination," the notice states.
USCIS, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), published the notice as a Notice of Extension of Temporary Protected Status Designation in the Federal Register (91 FR 32069). The document was posted for public inspection on May 27, 2026, and was viewed 1,053 times before official publication.
The agency noted that the Federal Register posting is an unofficial informational resource until the Administrative Committee of the Federal Register (ACFR) grants it official legal status. "Those relying on it for legal research should verify their results against an official edition of the Federal Register," the notice cautions.
